Our Top Priority Is Our Campers’ Health, Safety And Well-Being

Each year, we evaluate our medical protocols and practices using recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the YMCA of the USA, the Logan County Health Department, the Certified Horseman’s Association, the American Camping Association and the Association for Challenge Course Technology.

Medical Services

Our health hut is centrally located and equipped with first aid supplies and emergency medical equipment. In the summer, a staff member with advanced medical training (RN, EMT, LPN) is on duty 24 hours daily.

Time at camp is short in the summer and during our weekend camps, so our camp leaders need as much assistance as possible from parents/guardians to get to know our campers.

Required Health Information & Medications

All summer campers must have current health and medical information to attend camp. Parents must turn in ANY medication or supplement, prescription or over-the-counter, their child takes. This includes vitamins, allergy medication, pain relief and melatonin.

At check-in, please turn in all medications in the original bottle, along with the Camper Medication Form, signed by a doctor. Individual camper health records are kept confidential; we only share information on a “need-to-know” basis.

The Camper Medication Form is usually completed during our registration process, and it may also be completed at check-in.

Immunizations

Each summer and seasonal youth camper must have all immunizations as required by law and deemed necessary by your family doctor. Every child must be within the protection period of an up-to-date tetanus booster when they attend camp.

Allergies

We support and accommodate ALL food allergies and special diets. Please indicate any special needs during registration so we can best care for you and your camper. If we don’t know about them, we don’t know how to accommodate them!

We have campers with dairy, nut, wheat, soy, egg and gluten allergies; campers are discouraged from bringing food to camp to help avoid issues with food allergies. We also have several vegetarians.

Mental Health

The mental health of our campers and staff is just as important to us as their physical health. It is paramount that parents and guardians disclose mental health difficulties and management plans with the health care team at camp.

Our camp directors and staff are trained in best practices to work with campers experiencing anxiety and other mental health challenges.

Illnesses & Emergencies

Camp personnel will contact you or another designated emergency contact if your child requires the services of a physician. Camp personnel will contact you if a camper requires hospital emergency room treatment. Mary Rutan Hospital is just ten minutes away. Camp Willson will contact your child’s designated emergency contact if you are unreachable.
