Our Outdoor Education program offers teachers an opportunity to enhance student learning experiences without detracting from the base curriculum. Each of our programs is designed to promote the students’ understanding of team building, the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility and includes vocabulary for achievement concepts.
Teachers, with Y staff assistance, choose the classes and evening programs that best suit the needs of their students. Our multi-disciplinary approach incorporates science, math and social studies with our natural classroom to give students a greater understanding and appreciation of nature. We have a wide array of curriculum that takes advantage of the various seasons of the year.
Our natural classroom consists of 500 acres of field and forest with a 40 acre glacier-cut lake, an 1860′s log cabin, climbing wall and group initiative course. The Giant Swing and Zip Line is available for students grade six and up. We provide all the materials necessary for each program as well as orientations for parents, students and teachers.
